On the 16th of June 1973 The Rocky Horror Show began previews in the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs, London. They held their official, thunder ridden, opening night on the 19th of June 1973.

2013 marks the 40th Anniversary of this incredible production and I want to share some Frankie love here on Tumblr in a tribute to ‘the man who began it’ - Dammit. Well one of them. The one who stormed that stage forty years ago with such style and perfection that we’re sitting here forty years later, still talking about that tiny little production which by rights should have disappeared into the zeitgeist after the originally intended three week run.

So, Tumblr, can we get 4711 notes by 19th June?

So, in the middle of everything today, we ran across a hellaciously distressed momma mallard and a bunch of her baby ducks that had fallen down a sewer grate. Another guy was already trying to fish them out, so my friend and I called animal control before we tried to fish the rest of them out. When Animal Control got there, we had all of them out and the mother duck quacking very happily. I was surprised - none of us got snapped at or hurt. I was even holding onto a bag at one point that had all of them in it and she just watched me.

Sometimes I think I should live on the other side of the world so that I’d be awake when everyone I know is, but then I remember that I’d just stay awake until 5AM in China too and it’d just be the same thing only I wouldn’t speak the language and I’d be half a world away from the people I know.

Really, life would just be simpler if everyone stayed up until 5AM writing pointless posts on Tumblr, why can’t you all cater to my whims what kind of friends are you.

So my mom and I have been working the same waitress job for 5-6 years now. She had been waitressing years before, but this is recently. Anyway, about… 15 minutes ago this guy she waited on left and told her to take care. Just that. Prior to this she had talked to him about Italy. Her people are from Florence, this and that, and she said she’s never been. She’s got 8 years of art education and she’s working a waitress job. It’s pretty… Sad and disappointing, I guess. Her and my father divorced 6 years ago and she hasn’t had a real job ever. Just been stuck in a small town she’s not from.

This man who we have never seen before tipped her 1000 dollars for a trip to Italy. Walked out, not another word.

This is my cat Butterball, whom I’ve had since he was born. (I helped deliver him.) He’s a very good cat, and very important to me. However, I am going to be homeless starting on the 29th of May— I won’t have any way to support him or a place to keep him.

I love him very much, and I don’t want to take him to an animal shelter— I’d much rather see him go directly to a loving home, so I’m hoping that someone in the area can take him in. (In the future, if it’s possible, I’d really like to get him back, but as long as he’s with a loving family…)

He is an orange and white adult (older, but not elder) male cat who has been neutered. He’s very smart, and knows several words, including ‘no,’ ‘food,’ ‘snicker snacks (treats)’ ‘outside,’ and ‘lay down’. He’s litterbox trained but prefers the outside. He’s usually too lazy to hunt, but he loves to cuddle with people and is a very affectionate cat. He also loves people food, and is a terrible begger— and be careful if you have roast beef around him, he’ll go straight for it!

His health is good, but he sneezes a lot and sometimes likes wet cat food when he can get it because he is missing some teeth. (This is not a requirement, but he’ll love you for it!)

He’s a very lovely cat, and he deserves to find a loving home. Please, if you’re in the area and can possibly adopt him, please send me an ask and I’ll give you contact details to reach me. If you can’t, I humbly ask that you reblog this— I trust tumblr to help me find someone loving for him.

I’m actually with OP on this one. While I do think there’s a HUGE problem with scapegoating bi people for transphobia and cissexism, we can’t use that to avoid discussing existing transphboia and cissexism in bi communities. I wrote a post about this once, but unsurprisingly, it didn’t get around that much. I also dedicated about 10 pages to this in my book.

I also have to say that I do think there’s a problem with cis people not being attracted to trans* and non-binary people. Here’s what I wrote about this in the post I linked above:

I don’t think that being attracted only to cis men and women is overtly/deliberately transphobic and evil. I don’t think that such people intend to hurt anyone or to practice cis privilege on anyone’s back. However and notwithstanding, I do find that this tendency resonates with cissexist social standards.

People often like to think about attraction as a non-political, inborn, pure, uncontrollable quality which is somehow a given, but in most cases this is not so. More often than not, our attractions are shaped by social standards of beauty and attractiveness – of who/what is “allowed” to be considered attractive, and who/what is not. These standards of beauty are of course deeply political as they are shaped by dominant social beliefs and structures: to name just a few, white people are considered more attractive than people of color, thin people more than fat people, nondisabled people more than disabled people – and cisgender people more than transgender/genderqueer people. In Read My Lips, Riki Wilchins argues that the reason why transgender people are considered unattractive is that their/our bodies are unintelligible in terms of sexual attraction, to a culture which constructs its sexuality upon cisgender bodies. In order to be considered attractive, one must possess a body that “matches” their gender identity. This means that cisgender bodies are structurally privileged in terms of sexuality and sexual attraction – and we know what structural privileging of cisgender identity is called (that’s rights, cissexism).

Lisa Millbank of A Radical TransFeminist wrote very eloquently about how people need to challenge themselves in terms of sexual attraction to include people of marginalized groups, whom society teaches us to find unattractive: Significant Othering: Attraction Down The Privilege Gradient. I advise anyone to whom it may concern, to read this and reflect upon the contents.

That post is awesome and words things far more eloquently than I did.

…mmmm, a valid point, for the most part. one which i wish i had included in the video i made yesterday. this is yet another reason why while i identify as both panromantic and biromantic, i identify as panromantic first and foremost.

but god f’in damnit, i sincerely wish there weren’t conflicting definitions for bi-orientations… i absolutely hate how bi people who do not define their attraction as being towards only males and females are continually forced to clarify themselves while bi people who do stick to such a definition do not have to anywhere near as much.

also, it would just really be nice if pansexuals and panromantics could learn to define their attraction without automatically including the “definition” of another orientation for comparison. i can dream, right..?

Exactly, and it’s infuriating when pansexuals are like, “I am pansexual, which means I am attracted to anyone regardless of gender UNLIKE THOSE BISEXUALS LOL”. If (general) you absolutely have to draw any sort of comparison, it’s way easy to do it without implying that 1) all bisexuals ever define their sexuality one way and 2) not making it sound like you are better than them. (“I am pansexual, which means I am attracted to anyone regardless of gender, and while that’s similar to the way some people define bisexuality, I use the term ‘pansexual’ because it’s not as ambiguous as ‘bisexual’ can be.”)

Michigan District Fires All Teachers, Closes Every School:

Summer break has started very early for kids in one Michigan school district.

Buena Vista schools have been closed for five days already, and on Monday, the district’s website stated that the school would be closed until further notice. For good reason, this decision has parents, and the community, up in arms.

The problem in Buena Vista is that the school district, educating approximately 450 kids, is out of money. All the teachers have been laid off and a financial emergency has been declared. The district has suffered from declining enrollment, which, in turn, has led to a loss of $3 million in state funding since 2010.

In an effort to keep schools open, teachers said they would work without pay. This is not possible under Michigan law so educators have been left in limbo. To make matters worse, the staff has also lost their health insurance.

But at least Exxon can keep their subsidies, so we’re still okay for now.
